Title explanation:
The title is ‘A kiss before dying'. The kiss stands for love that came from Dorothy and Ellen. Dying stands for dead, Bud kills the persons who loved him.

Where and when:
The story takes place in America. Partly in Blue River, Iowa where Dorrie's school was, and partly in New York where Marion lives. The story starts in 1949 and ends in December 1951.

The story covers about three years. Most of the story is told in chronological order, but in the second chapter there is a flash-back that gives some information about the murderer.

Summary:
PART 1: Dorothy
Dorrie got pregnant, because of this she ruined, without knowing, her boyfriend's evil plans. The boy, whose name isn't mentioned yet, wants to marry her because her father is very rich and they would inherit his money when he dies. Dorrie loves him and wants to marry him as soon as possible but her boyfriend knows that he might just as well forget about getting any money if they did so. e persuades her to take abortion pills, but they don't work. Then he decides to kill her. He prepares pills with arsenic, and tricks Dorrie into writing a suicide note. He tells her these pills are better than the others.

He sends the suicide note to her sister Ellen. But Dorrie didn't take the pills although, on the phone she said she did. The next morning Dorrie just walks into the...
